This small-growing species is very rare. It was only recently discovered in the rainforests of Borneo. The southern part of the island, which belongs to Indonesia, is unfortunately severely threatened by deforestation. This palm tree boasts truly spectacular leaves. Dark green leaves are covered with light green spots, forming a striking pattern. This makes the species similar to the long-established Licuala mattanensis var. mapu. The main difference between the two species lies in the fruits and seeds. In L. mattanensis, these are elongated, while the fruits and seeds of this new species are round and about one centimeter in size. The plant requires a moist, warm location to grow. Also, use well-drained soil and avoid direct sunlight.
