Sabal minor "Louisiana" grows in the swampy undergrowth of the southern and southeastern United States. This makes it ideal for moist, partially shaded, and sandy, humus-rich locations. Sabal minor Louisiana forms only a relatively small, visible trunk, which grows more underground and therefore usually only reaches about 1.50-2.00 meters tall. Sabal minor Louisiana is said to be the most cold-resistant of the genus. It is said to have a frost tolerance of down to about -20°C. Of course, such temperature specifications only apply to older, planted specimens that have already hardened off.
