A magnificent, large, and somewhat mysterious Dypsis from the lowland rainforests of the Masoala Peninsula in northeastern Madagascar. As a young plant, it is particularly colorful and stunning, with reddish-brown leaf midribs with dark markings, a waxy-white crownshaft and trunk, and beautiful dark green leaves with somewhat drooping leaflets. Mature trees are very large with a robust, single trunk, a long crownshaft, and enormous, ascending leaves that are strongly recurved towards the tip. The long, regularly arranged leaflets have drooping tips. This palm exhibits saxophone-like root growth; keep the upper third of the upward-facing root section above soil level.
