Pseudophoenix vinifera is a single-stemmed palm that can grow to 7 to 25 meters tall. The trunk can develop a diameter of 30 to 40 cm; the upper part of the trunk is swollen, thickest at the top, and has distinctive rings; it is crowned by a crown of long, graceful leaves. The sap is harvested in the home to make an alcoholic beverage. This was once a very popular beverage, and the trees were frequently harvested from the wild, primarily for local consumption.
