A graceful, almost delicate palm tree that forms very thin stems up to 1.5 m tall, with fan-shaped leaves at the end, usually divided into up to eight very narrow, glossy green segments down to the leaf base. Rhapis vidalii originates from the understory of the evergreen subtropical forests of northern Vietnam, where it grows on limestone soils between 300 and 800 m above sea level. Collecting seeds from Rhapis vidalii is extremely difficult, as the habitats are extremely inaccessible, and each plant typically produces only two to three seeds.
