This is a relatively newly described species, having been in the trade for 10 years before it was finally described by John Dransfield in the Jeff Marcus Collection in Hawaii. Until then, it was called Dypsis "White Stem," which, while a fitting name, is unfortunately the same name given to another undescribed Dypsis. This plant is a clustering, thin-stemmed, 4- to 5-meter-tall palm with thin, arching leaves and a white, powdery crownshaft and upper trunk/stems. The leaflets are also thin, somewhat leathery, and somewhat whitish.
